Mechanical Systems

NEE AMC controllers are used in a wide range of applications. In the last 20 years NEE often encountered applications where the system performance was impaired due to the mechanical design. To overcome this we decided to design and build our own systems.

Osprey's are built for industrial uses with economy in mind. The design uses Lee linear ways, spring loaded rack and pinion drives, and servo motors which provide durable precision and performance.

Sprint's are designed for smaller high precision 2.5 and 3D applications where high machine productivity is required. Sprint machines have a rigid fixed gantry, linear ways and ball screws driven by high speed servo motors.

The design priorities for the Osprey were:

  • High versatility to complement the versatility of our Advanced Machine Controllers

  • High reliability

  • High repeatability - zero backlash

  • Smooth motion at all speeds

  • High accuracy option

  • Availability in a wide range of sizes

  • Easily shippable

  • Easy to construct

  • Easy to maintain

Machine sizes range for 2 x 4ft (600 x1200mm) to 20 x 100ft (6000 x 30000mm). Machine speeds range from 0.01 ins/min. (0.25mm/min) up to 2500 ins/min (64,000mm/min). Machine acceleration and deceleration can be up to 0.5g. Custom machines are available. To keep costs to a minimum we do not generally supply the machine bases.

The machine is essentially ‘H’ shaped. A cross axis moves right and left along a gantry, which is supported by, and runs up and down, the two sides. The machine is generally driven using rack and pinions on both sides of the gantry, by motors and belt gear reductions. This enables the gantry to be automatically squared after power on by the AMC. Smaller machines are available driven from one side only.

Osprey machines can be supplied with a variety and number of heads including, pneumatic and motorised Z axes, tangential axes, cutting heads and custom heads to suit your needs.

Osprey systems are suitable for a range of applications including:

  • Plasma Cutting

  • Laser Cutting

  • Knife Cutting

  • Gas Welding

  • Laser Welding

  • Rug Cutting and Carving

  • Plotting

  • Dispensing

  • Inspection

  • Pick and Place
