The PNC4 was a powerful, fully integrated movement control system which included a programmable
logic controller (PLC). The unit was designed to be used in industrial and scientific environments. The
PNC4's many unique features made it very adaptable and easy to use.The controller could be operated
both in stand alone mode or as an intelligent peripheral for either our programming aid/workstation or
for other CAD/CAM work stations. Main advantages of the new PNC4 controller over its predecessors are:
- Continual machine movement for tangential movements
- Conditional program execution where sub programs are executed if input signals are present/absent
- Additional input signal types
- Cassette record/playback speed and capacity double
- Battery backup on memory
- Memory size increased to 600 block standard 3000 blocks as option
- Programmable machine/system parameters enabling machine to be operator work stations
PNC4 auxiliary and analogue outputs could be operated during system movement, which may be continuous.
The mechanical parameters of the machine to be controlled may be readily preset into the PNC4's battery
backed memory. The most powerful PNC4 is the PNC4 DC which uses the closed loop DC servo control
for the most demanding applications. DC servo control provides precise, smooth, high speed, and quiet
machine operation. DC systems can cope with widely changing machine loads. The stepper motor PNC4
uses stepper motors to provide low cost, rugged motion control, generally in applications requiring low
to medium speed and motor power.
